This was a small gate at the rear of Guise Château installed to admit reinforcements in times of trouble.  It was through here that the twelve were led to their place of execution which is just inside the porte-secours and to its right.

The Place des Armes during the War. It was from here that Waechter, Kolera and two lorries full of troops departed for Iron to arrest the British soldiers in hiding. The pedestal carried the statue of Camille Desmoulins. He was guillotined by Robespierre during The Terror. The statue has been dismantled presumably by the occupying German forces.
